For a long time, there was darkness. It was the only thing he knew, for he had lived in it. When there wasn't darkness, there were memories, dreams. They were his only comfort between the spells of oblivion. He had always dreaded the points where the comforting images in his mind would simply cut off. The spells lasted an eternity for him. I deserve this, he thought.
